Message from Tomato:

The first part of this message concerns current Starmen.Net staffers, and the 2nd part will be about new staff openings.

Staffers lately have been getting sort of lazy, especially the past 6 months or so. It used to be that I would hound all the staffers and yell at them to update everytime I saw them loitering around IRC or whatever, but since getting a full-time job and all I haven't been doing that as much. I know that school makes it harder to update and this causes fewer updates overall, but some staffers seem to practically ignore their sections, and in some cases they just want to reap the benefits staffers sometimes receive.

Well, I'd just like to urge you to start updating more often and with more energy. I know it's sort of the fault of me and reid that things have gone into a slump like this but we want to fix that. Remember that when you were hired one of the requirements was that you needed to be able to create content on your own if submissions for your section were far and few between. I don't expect people to update 5 times a day. I'd just like regular updates. Like 1 update a week would be nice, especially if it were always on a specific day.

AmzRigh - you do a good job, keep up the good work. I just wish you could get a few more things in your updates, and have more often updates. Even if it's just something like screenshots or reviews or whatever. Keep on the lookout for EB0 walkthroughs and stuff out there that we don't have too.

KindarSpirit - I know there've been lots of weird difficulties, and you needn't worry so much about me firing you. I actually don't fire people very much, more often than not people decide to step down. But I really would like it if you could find the time to do regular updates. Theories are doing well, but one problem is that the topics in the theory archives aren't always very clear. Also, even if it seems weird, get screenshots or other stuff if you don't have much to update with. And be on the lookout for lots of walkthroughs and FAQs we don't have yet.

Skulryk - You're doing a pretty good job, especially since the game your section is about has been cancelled for over 2 years. Try to be creative and think of ways to keep updates coming though. I obviously don't expect updates every week. I *might* be able to help you with some regular updates but I'll have to check my schedule.

GuyInSummers - good work with the mailbag so far. The mailbag usually has so many letters now that I don't read them all, you may want to consider this. See what other visitors think. Good work with coming up with good topics, too.

Wampa - That was really close. You really do need to update more often, once a week preferably. Sure, a hefty percentage of your submissions aren't so good, but that's no excuse for putting off updates for so long. Again, you need to be able to create your own content if submissions are low, and maybe you should try to find ways to improve the quality of your submissions somehow.

dJeu - Your updates have been very scarce lately. Yes, there have been funfests, but you shouldn't be gone so much. When you do update though, you're an ideal staffer.

Anthadd - You're always excellent about updating on a consistent basis, though I never understood why the HoF had tomatoes nor why it looked so ugly when people got a bunch. Hopefully that'll change when the site gets a makeover. Keep up the good work.

Jonk - Fan art updates have been very few lately, and since it's one of the biggest sections of the site, I really wanna get that remedied. Hopefully in the near future it should be a snap to make updates, but for now we really need you to stay on top of things. Also don't get too swamped in 5000 personal projects, I can tell you from experience that at some point things'll make you go beserk.

SLing - You're doing a good job in making people feel stupid. Keep up the good work. Try to keep consistent updates.

Plo - I think the main problem is the HTML. Hopefully the whole process can be made easier in the near future, but to be honest your updates are so sporadic I've sometimes thought of just hiring a monkey to keep watch while you're away.

Eggy - Good job with the funfest and with the consistent updates to your section. I know poems and songs aren't the things most people like to submit but I'm glad to see people are submitting and that you're creating your own content when they're not.

EBounding - Yay you started updating polls again. For a long time there I thought polls were dead for good. But now they're back and I'm happy to the extreme.

Aquas - Your super rare updates make me sad :( You used to update so much too :( Please update more, your section is one of my favs... And to other visitors: If you find weird EB or Mother 1/2 merchandise out there, let Aquas know! I also wish SM.Net radio was more EB-ish. It should be, after all. Even if only 3 people listen, that's fine.

ROFISH: I know choosing the site spotlights is hard, but keep in mind they're not exactly sites of the month, they're more like sites that are cool or that have the potential to be cool. By listing these sites on the sidebar we're helping them and the community out. It's more of a community function than a ranking thing. Try to keep that in mind.

Garurugirl - I dunno why the staff page has your name as Newsletter. I'll fix it when I'm not so super sleepy. Anyway where did the newsletters go? I liked the newsletter, it was cool. The first cool newsletter we've had in a long time. Good work, but if possible try to send it out on regular intervals, okay?

Everdraed - You really need to update more. The section is so vague you could put tons of stuff in there. Be creative, and remember that if nobody sends you stuff you should be able to make stuff on your own.

Well, there are several staff positions open. I was hoping to hold this off until the new design went up but things have been taking longer than I had hoped.

Position openings: Super Buddha Here to Hire Cool New Staffers!

  • Articles - The former articles staffer seemed to just abandon his section. I know there are plenty of articles that can still be written, so I'd like to see this section thrive again.

The staffer will have to have good writing skills, punctuality, a decent attitude, and a good work ethic. They'll also need lots of free time in about a month or two because all the articles will have to be converted into a new database system. Mostly it'll consist of cutting and pasting text.

  • Super Smash Bros. Melee - Mr. Accident ran this section very well, and for that I'm thankful. But he's currently occupied with a new, massive version of PK Hack, so a new staffer will need to step in. Mostly it'll consist of adding FAQs/walkthroughs, Fan Melee, getting screenshots, making a big graphical Ness FAQ, and whatever new ideas they have for the section. I would want this section to be updated regularly, at least once a week.

  • Super Smash Bros. - Yeah, you read right. I've always wanted a staffer for this section because it's horribly underdeveloped. The staffer would need to fill up the section with lots of FAQs and new screenshots and new ideas. Obviously it would probably be a temporary staff position only, but who knows, it may lead to bigger staff positions.

If you're going to apply for a position, please keep the following in mind:

  1. If you've applied for a position in the past and got turned down, don't get discouraged. Many times it comes down to like 3 or 4 people and we unfortunately have to choose only 1, so you might have been one of those others who were almost chosen.

  2. Clearly state the staff job you're applying for in the e-mail subject.

  3. At least 2 good-sized paragraphs in your e-mail or out the window it goes.

  4. Ideas on how you would improve your section are super good for staff applications. Even if you're not chosen your ideas might still improve the section and make people happy.

  5. You will need a decent understanding of HTML. The site's HTML system is easy so you don't have to mess with very much, usually just the very basic HTML tags.

  6. You will have to use DOS Edit. Notepad causes exploded HTML, which is evil.

  7. You will need a positive attitude and you will need to get along with others. Mean staffers are kicked out.

Send applications here.
