Fanfics were a little sparse today, but I think that just means you're all storing up energy to attack with renewed vigor next week, right? Send me more stuff or I'll be sad. You can also prevent staffer sadness by glancing through some of the 'fics and drawing pictures to go with the narrative. This is a wonderful idea for any of you artistic folks who are thinking of drawing some sort of comic-like thing, but couldn't find a writer to match with. There's piles of good writing just waiting for a friendly artist to spice it up with a little illustration! This isn't even a new thing - world famous political cartoonist Worker & Parasite (or Arbeiter und Parasit for those of you joining us from Germany [actually, I just wanted an excuse to say "und"]) got his start (or middle) illustrating EB.Net Seiges NOA! So writers, get busy writing, and artists, get busy arting! Hoohahah! I think it's gonna get pretty busy around here what with all these projects and the petition wrapping up! Now, with the name that fan art contest, the last contest was too messy with entries and hasnt been revived since way before I took over, so the last NTFA doesnt count. The Mother 3 section has been updated... after a long long time. The cancellation documents are still being translated, and I don't have an update with that just yet, but I do bring you something else. It's fanthoughts! Well, the old topic about the EGM rumor was pretty horrible because it only got one half-decent response so I had to promise Carpainter that I'd dedicate the update to him so he would send me a fanthought. Well, he sent me one, so this update is dedicated to Carpainter! And you can see the old topic here. I really really hope that you guys will send me more fanthoughts for the next topic, which I really really hope will be more successful. It's got to be, Yutz suggested it! I mentioned this in my last monster update, but I felt it needed rementioning. We're thinking of starting a Starmen.Net webcomic. If you've got good art skills and/or are a good comedy writer, find a fellow good artist/good writer and make a sample webcomic and send it to me. We'll be choosing a winner in the next week or two, hopefully. Again, sprite webcomics are right out. These need to be actual, artistic-like comics. So get going, fools! |

You'd be suprised at how many people order pizza during the super bowl halftime! Articles has been updated! Whee! Down to business...I have found out that a few people took my response to MikeTheEBGuru's article to be bashes. This was Not my intent, and I felt really bad. So I was utterly pleased to find that he had written a response to My response! So, of course I had to be fiesty and wrote a response to his response, to my response. Anyway, both are down there. Okay, I get the feeling this is going to be a long update. Try to bear with me. First, go check out reid's letter to the staffers. It's missing a lot of power but the message is right; if a staffer can't continue to do her/his job as required, for the sake of the site they really should step down and let another person have at it. I too don't really like these staffers who update once in a while but then suddenly disappear and don't really care enough to update anymore or step down. You're just bringing down the site's fun and awesomeness level that way :( Staffers also need to keep in contact with me and reid with your situations. Okay now that I'm done with that rant, here comes the next fun thing. Staffers can only do so much. The site is 90% what the visitors give to it, so try to get over your apathy and start helping make the site better! People like to complain about lack of new ideas for submissions, that everything's been done, but I can think of so many things right off the top of my head. Here, I'll even list a few. As you may know, the Articles section is finally being updated again, so why not try to help bring it back to life? The articles section rocked so much back in the older days, let's try to get it like that again! Here's just a bunch of ideas I threw out in a couple minutes. Try writing about them, or maybe these ideas will give you other ideas. Incidentally, me and reid are thinking of adding a new section or two to the articles section. They'll be really interesting if we can get things running smoothly. Honestly. The flukes section is often cited as being the trashiest section on the site, and I can't really argue with that, so many flukes are really bad. But probably the biggest reason I refuse to shut down the section is because there ARE good flukes out there, and a bunch of people out there who make good flukes. I implore you, STRIVE to make your flukes good! Keep in mind that a good fluke is usually very simple. You should strive to make it look as real as possible - try to make the text look like it's really from the game, don't use weird colored text, don't do crossovers - those suck 99% of the time, don't do stupid humor like Pokey farting on a Mr. Saturn. What I suggest to fluke makers is this - play through the game again. I know everytime I play it I'm like, "Ha, wouldn't it be crazy if BLANK happened right here?" or whatever. Playing through it can give you lots of fresh ideas. How I wish the Fluke Maker didn't include all that stupid non-EB stuff :( The Fan Art section is pretty rockin'. I'm with Jonk 100% when he says to actually put time in your work, and for the love of Giygas, DO NOT use MS Paint! I see so much more potential for this section, it's just too bad it's set up weird and that there's lots of crap mixed in with it :( So... try to put time and energy into your work. The better your work is the better you make Starmen.Net, and the better you represent all the EB fans out there! I hope to see more fan comics soon, I love them so much. But I'm also thinking maybe we should get an official SM.Net webcomic. Maybe updated weekly or a few times a week or something. I'm still toying with the idea but if you're interested and have good ideas and good art skills, get in contact with me!. Make sure you send an example of what you would make the SM.Net webcomic like though. And no, sprite comics do not interest me. Not unless you're a REALLY good writer. While we're on the topic of comics, I've also been toying with the idea of bringing back updates to the manga section. Everyone and their pet monkey knows I have so much stuff to work on as it is that this is still only an idea, but I might do it if there's enough interest in it. So you better make your voice heard somehow if you want this section brought back to life. Otherwise I'll just assume no one cares too much so I'll just leave it as is. As for contests, despite Anthadd always sounding like Colonel Klink in my head, I really support his EB Trivia and suggest you participate in it regularly. Go now! Oh yeah, while I'm at it, yes, the Apple of Enlightenment section HAS been closed. It was a decision made both by me and reid. It was a good contest, but the overall quality of the entries was really not much to be happy about (arrrgh, dumb flukes), it directly conflicts with our regular Funfests, predictions were getting kinda poopy, Bad Art Weeks were cool the 1st time but just getting old and lowering people's standards of quality for other stuff, and it's hard to find someone who can hang on to the section long enough. Don't fret though, we do plan on adding a new kind of contest. But this time, reid and I thought we would let all the visitors throw in their 2 cents as to what kind of contest it should be. So put those 2 pennies in this thread! For the love of bubble gum monkeys, don't start trying to sneak in "ooh make me the staffer for it too!" hints, or I'll get mad. Oh yes, I finally updated the Site Info section yesterday. Check it out! I finally updated all the staff stuff, the hosted sites thing, and the SM.Net in the Media page. Very neat stuff in that section, yes indeed. There's a lot more that I can say, but I don't want this update to be so long nobody reads it. Plus I'm pretty exhausted. For those who don't know, reid was stupid/insane enough to attempt an engineering major at his school, plus extracurricular activities like horseshoe tossing. So he's got almost no spare time now. I get mad because he takes so long to update anything or e-mail someone, but I was there when I started this site so I can't blame him. On the other hand, I've gotten a full-fledged career going, I've been translating anime for a well-known anime localization studio for the past 3 or 4 months. With all the work I got and all the stuff I do on the side, I don't have lots of time for the site, but I'm trying hard to put some focus back on the site. One thing I intend to do is finally, FINALLY complete that Starmen.Net Online EarthBound Walkthrough. Almost all of the work has been done on it, we just need to put it together and add the trimmings. But it also involves reid doing a design for it and me writing a little program to put all the info together. A 2-year old preview can still be found here. There are a few pages after where the preview ends, just to let you know, you just need to change the number in the URL.
So anyway, the job requires the following:
When submitting your application, remember that it needs to be well written, and 2 to 3 good-sized paragraphs AT LEAST! This is to weed out all those freaks who are like "hi i can do job mail me back and we discuss" and such. Send applications to me here. Also coming up MIGHT be a new EarthBound section maintainer, I have no idea what has happened to KindarSpirit. We might also have to get a new SSBM guy if Pi doesn't start updating :( As before, we might need a webcomic guy, and maybe a new mailbag guy since GiS seems to be in limbo. Possibly a new newsletter person, but I'd really hate to replace Garurugirl since her newsletters rock, despite not having any new ones in a long time :( But anyway, these openings are not 100% final yet so don't go circling around them like vultures just yet. If you like any of these sections and want to see them updated more, try e-mailing the maintainers of those sections and give them your support, don't e-mail them yelling at them to update, and definitely do not call staffers doodoo heads. Oh, yes, I've been working on the second installment of that Mother 3 Cancellation Discussion Translation the past few days, but I haven't had time to finish it. Been pretty busy and tired lately. I'll try to have it soon. I only have 1 brain! Okay, so that's all for this time, I might just write up another huge thing in the near future.  Since there have been some other good updates recenetly and people have asked for an extension for ART WEEK, this special week will be ending Sunday and I will be updating most likely on Monday. I dont know if I will continue with the "Name that Fanart" contest because it is a WHOLE other thing for me to update along with Fanart of the week, the art itself and other Art Dept projects that you will hear about soon. Also for all of those that keep e-mailing Sephy, Sephy is NOT the staffer of the Fanart or Fan Comics section here on the site anymore,I AM. Please stop sending him and asking him stuff. Ok as with the art itself, I have gotten a decent number of comics recently (Like the last 2 weeks)so I will update that so stop asking if the Fan comics are dead, because they aren't. Also, for all those that are turning in art, NO MS PAINT and please for the love of all that is orange, put time into your drawings. I want to see some maturity in the art we turn in as a community.  HARPY BARFDAY JONK Its sorta freaky that Meeellla, Jonk, and Vender all have birthdays this close to each other. But, as Jonk indicated, it must be an omen of some sort. All who do not submit fanart will be forced to sacrifice their firstborn to the Starmen.Net empire. Its not that bad, just ask Giovanni. In other news, school has swallowed me whole, like so many marshmallows in a fat kid's cocoa. I'm working on 6 different websites right now, which (needless to say) means that I'm spread pretty thin. Couple that with 17 credit hours of math/electrical engineering classes and you've got a pretty busy reido. There have been a lot of problems with the new design, and I may be redoing it altogether. Its hard telling right now. So don't freak out and be like 'REID YOU SAID IT WOULD BE DONE A WEEK AGO'. Be nice to me. Its good for you. Just ask the people who were mean to me. I really do apologize for not having much to show to you guys, but anyone who has been here for a while knows that you always have to convert from real time into reid time whenever I give you an estimate on the finish date for a project. I said the new design would be done mid January. Accounting for reid time, that means the end of this summer. See? Its simple. Don't underestimate me -- lots of work was done on the new design, especially by Xod. But a lack of forethought on my part could be the reason that I'm gonna redo it. Who knows. Maybe I'll show it to you guys sooner or later just to see how you would have liked it, had we stuck with it. Once again, my apologies. While I'm here I might as well update you on some other things:

| I've been playing too much Super Mario Sunshine and chatting with GotARiverFenixEP which has inhibited me from updating. I've finally gotten around to it though. I've put up a new Moves List. It'll be revised soon and the Secrets FAQ will have Gameshark codes. I'll also be working on the title page for the SSB section and all that awsumaness. I'm also thinking of running an SSB Trivia when I get most of the FAQ section done, but I want your input. If all goes well with the MAN I might be able to pull it off.
