Happy New Year! |

And how else to bring in the new year than with Mailbag! I'm obviously a touch late. Hey, I was on vacation, it's all good. Besides, I think I have something that'll make up for it. I used and responded to every letter I got. Every one. Yep, not a letter out of the thirty-fiveish left out. Enjoy!
This week's topic is: Holiday Funfest 2002 has come and gone. How was it? Better than last year? Than the Halloween funfest? Favorite entry? Happy with the winners? Tell, tell all!
Yep, it's time to voice off about the Funfest! Speak now! Don't worry, I won't close the Mailbag until the winners are announced, so you'll get a chance to discuss them.
As for Letter of the Week, it was written by PSI322! Yes! YAY! I very much doubt this will be PSI's last win. And this also means that poor guru's streak was ended. Sorry, guru. You can still go for the first ever Gold name in the Hall of Fame! Or you could just enjoy being awesome.
Responses to last week's Mailbag include the Full Mailbag Rules, way too many letters, and a free MP3. So what are you waiting for! Mailbag on! Happy new year!!

Day 30: Close to the wire!! |

We're winding down... remember, tomorrow is the last day that you can enter an entry! Remember! Tomorrow! Last day! This is very important because I can think of at least one of you who has to finish something that they started! Look, here's a FAQ!
Q: When's the last day you can enter Funfest? A: TOMORROW!!!
And those crazy guys AoE and Rondino Abaca want you to know that their entry, Flesh, is now up at FlatFace.Net - the FF.Net that has twice the Linux angst of the other one.
GiS where's the mailbag? Anth where's the trivia? :~( I was looking forward to seeing you guys put a big dent in the main page after my five-update streak... instead, you left Tomato and Eggy to do it. You make me sad.
Speaking of Tomato's update, whoever the new staffers turn out to be, pick an update day other than Friday or Sunday if you can. Just a suggestion; it's not like I run the site or anything. (Although a couple people think I do after that fake Mother 3 thing I did last week. Oh, did I mention that was fake?)

Message from reid-san: |

reid wishes to say that he has e-mailed the successful staffer people who have been chosen to be new staffers. But none of them have replied and since he was weird enough to make the e-mail subject lines sound like "Hello, and..." he's afraid the winners might have thought it was spam and deleted it. So go check your inboxes and if you see an e-mail from reid, read it.
That is all.

AMAZING! |

For the first time ever, nobody has gotten SLings Secret Screenshots. Not even Gauntlet! Because of this, I have posted a hint for the current screenshot, and you have until next sunday to get it! If you've already entered, you can enter again. The hint practically gives it away, so if you don't get it, I'll be dissapointed in you! So get crackin'! This means you, Gauntlet!

Day 27: Whoops, Temporal Anomaly. |

Must've gotten confused due to the late-night syndrome on that last update.
I just applied to university. If it all goes through like it's supposed to then I'll end up at Trent. In other news, did you know that Trooper sang that "Santa Maria" song I like so much? This is a miracle on the order of Doobie Brothers in DDR.
Crusin' on a saucy boat, loaded up with crazy people...
Oh and before I forget again, mad props to ex-Fanfic staffer Rune for tipping me off as to the rockitude of the new J5 album. You da man!

Day 569: That other section |

As promised, here's your morning dose of Fanfics. I know it's not really morning anymore.. well, you try staying awake from 5:30 AM to 1:45 AM the following day on four hours of sleep and see what time you get up.
And don't forget that the update itself has even more to entertain and enthrall you! Yay!

Day 28: Soul-stealing arcade machines |

Holy moley. There are a lot of things to do today. First, there's the Funfest entries.
And then, as if that wasn't enough, there are new Fanfics. Or there would be if I hadn't gotten sidetracked talking to this really nice girl I know.. um, it's late and I'm tired, and I'm just not gonna do it. Tell you what - I'll leave all my stuff open on the taskbar and do it first thing tomorrow. G'night!

Day 25: Like I Really Need A Description |

Hah! I'm so cool, I get to brag about my Christmas loot on the main page! :D Actually, there's only one thing I want to mention, and I should probably mention it here so that everyone can see it cuz I'm gonna be referring to it for the next three weeks or so. I got THE FLOYD. Not one, but two Pink Floyd albums. I am the rocking. I know that's grammatically incorrect, but I've been running on sheer Christmas joypower since 6:30 this morning so I think some allowances can be made.
Here's some entries. Think of them as my gift to you, kind of.
Since there's been a little confusion, I'd like to remind you that Funfest doesn't end until midnight on December 31st. In other words, as long as your entry is dated 2002, you're in the clear. Once we pass that arbitrary date at which the Gregorian calendar says the new year starts, you're out of luck. Oh, that crazy god! I hate GD, promise me you'll stay away from it. Come to IF instead. Ok? Merry Christmas, I'm going to sleep. Zzz.

Merry Christmas! |

Patrick and I would like to wish a very happy holiday to everyone on the site! Be sure to bring your relatives to see Starmen.Net so they know that you're not the ONLY invisible internet weirdo in the world. Christmas was really awesome here in Indiana, because it turned out to be a (very) white Christmas - around 5 inches of snow, the first significant snowfall of the year! That craaazy God, what will he think of next? Now if only it were 80 degrees and sunny tomorrow it would be a truly awesome Christmas.
As an update, I've pretty much finished the main page layout, so we're moving along pretty well in the way of graphics. I hope Tomato and Xod can dig deep within their big beautiful generous programmer's hearts and get some cool database/scripting work done for us. I really would help if I knew anything at all, guys :(
Anyway, if you wanna prove to everyone how awfully and terribly spoiled you are by bragging about the ugly sweaters your aunts bought you for Christmas, you can come and talk to us on General Discussion, cuz there are like 8 Christmas threads.
Merry Christmas!

Polls! |

HO HO HO! I BRING YOU POLLS! That didn't really rhyme, but that's ok! First the results from last week.
What's the coolest vehicle thingy in EarthBound?
The Runaway Five Wagon!: 40.68%
The Phase Distorter!: 18.63%
The Sky Runner!: 17.39%
The bicycle!: 16.46%
The Bus!: 6.83%
Total Votes: 322
Wow a lot more people voted this time for some unknown reason. But be sure to keep it up and vote this week too! Merry Christmas!

Day 24: Christmas Eve! |

Before we get down to business, I have to brag for a second. I just beat Super Metroid for the first time today. I'm very pleased with myself because it's always been one of my ambitions to prove that I'm cool enough to beat that stupid game. Yay me! Okay, on with the update.
It's Christmas Eve! Now, I know there are a few people out there who don't celebrate Christmas, but I think it's safe to assume that most of us do. It's a very exciting night for everyone; after all, who could possibly wait to run up to the tree and grab those tasty presents? But let's not forget that it's not all about the loot! There's also things like family and breakfast to consider. (What? My Christmas breakfast is not to be missed. We get grapefruit and bacon. Oh, well yes, I suppose there's Christmas dinner too.) So let's also consider these great Funfest entries. After all, Christmas is the season of giving, and these people gave a lot of time and effort to bring these creations to you!
Whether you're hoping to get what you want, trying to create an expression that conveys surprise at getting what you knew you were going to get anyway, or just being grumpy like Starman Rabbi here, let me wish you all a Merry Christmas (or holiday season thereof) on behalf of everyone here at Starmen.Net! See you tomorrow if I can tear myself away from my haul!

Day 23: Anti-Giveaways & The Funfest Monster |

Well, it seems that mentioning things on the main page is the key to getting people to do them. Not 12 hours after I mentioned the Empire game, I got two entries with right answers! Tetsu got all the ones from LE, so he gets a No Miss Clear. fireside did him one better with the LE and the update quotes, earning a No Miss Clear plus a Ninja Commendation! Congrats to both of you, may your names ring on in the memory of the forumgoers (about six months on average).
The Funfest Monster wants your entries. Here's the person who helped feed him today:
Feeding the Funfest Monster is good. Feeding the Giant Tiger (which is the fate of people who don't enter, or who enter things that aren't holiday related) is bad. Go work on your entries, even on the 25th. I'm not stopping just 'cause it's Christmas, so why should you? (Unless of course you have a bunch of family members to please or something, in which case we'll make a concession. We know better than to make you put the site before your parents around here.)
Oh, and Da Foo is making the foolish mistake of hosting guest comics on his webspace. More details here.

Happy Holidays! |

Dang Internet. Dead all weekend. But nonetheless, I am here with Mailbag! YAY! We have an extra-special week this week. Why? GODOFCOWS! That's right, goc himself is the corresponder! ...sort of! You see, I wanted him to co this week, but I couldn't find him, so I looked for someone else. I found poik007, and he filled in, but then goc came back...the point of all this is, we have TWO corresponders this week. godofcows handled the first half of the letters, poik007 the second. Go to Mailbag and take a look! It's all holidayorific!
This week's topic is: What real-life things remind you of EarthBound?
This topic is brought to you by PappyCat! Unfortunately I lost her original email, so it may not be word for word. If I remember right, her example was that the car direction clicker thing reminds her of the Saturn Valley music. I think. In any case, write in!
Oh, I forgot to mention. Since last week was fun open Mailbag, there was no Letter of the Week. So, if somebody's going to dethrone guruzeth, this is going to have to be the week. Have fun! Piece out!

Squirl = God |

As you can see, I have a new Staff Icon. Squirl, you rock. This suits me much better than Tony ;D. All hail Squirl!
Speaking of cool stuff, SLings Secret Screenshots has been updated! I'm not late! Don't sue me! Congrats to the two people that got it right last week. I almost didn't update, but then I was saved by the two people that got it right :D.

Day 21: So I had this conversation today |

"Did you ever see that Woody Allen movie, Antz?" "Which one was that?" "It's the one about being an insignificant insect in New York." "Dude, every Woody Allen movie is about being an insignificant insect in New York." "Oh, right."
And that sparkling dialogue leads us right into today's Funfest entries.
A couple of people have emailed me asking for more information about the EB3 GBA pic I put up yesterday. Well, the picture looks awfully similar to the one Falcon put up last April (a few posts up from the bottom) for the GameCube, don't you think? Verrrrry interesting! Go discuss it in the chatroom. SB out.

Fy-sucks Final Finished! |

Finals are over! Christmas Break! I was so excited, I spilled water on my keyboard. Now I'm on this cheap piece of crap that I had lying around. It's just one of those things, that you're so used to the old keyboard, now you can't type at all without looking at it because it's so different. Anyway, here's Today's Updated Sites:URL Additions:Have you updated your site recently? Would you like your site to be listed in updated sites? All you have to do is email updatedsites@starmen.net with your site's name and url.

Day 20: What did you get last night? |

Sorry this update is so late, but I've been busy trying to wear out the batteries in my GBA.
There's no Fanfic update since nobody sent me anything over there. Check out yesterday's update right below this one if you want to read something. Gotta get back to videogames now. See you next year, EB no Matsuri fans!

Day 19: He's Coming Tonight! |

Alright so last night's update was a little short, but tonight's update is very special! It's EB no Matsuri! So don't forget to put out your strawberry tofu and go to bed early, unless you cheated on your tax form, in which case you can join me in the silent vigil of the insomniacs who would rather get Annual Gift Man arrested instead of get a petri dish of flesh-eating virii under their pillows.
Unfortunately, I have no EB no Matsuri entries on this night of nights. :( Maybe tomorrow your copies of Mother 3 will inspire you to create some for me. :D
I can already hear Godzilla doing his warm-up yells for the fight against Mega Annual Gift Moon Man... have a very merry EB no Matsuri, one and all!
