The Return of AoE |

|
|
Yep, it's back. The Apple of Enlightenment. That weekly contest where site goers submit various works of art and literature and flukes to win a shiny, cool forum badge and rank. And what better way to celebrate than continue the topic that was being done before the minor technical difficulties. So that means,
This week's (*chortle*) prediction is: What if the Runaway 5 were a Eurodisco band?
Again, think of groups like ABBA, Aqua, happy, bubblegum dance stuff. Cheesy, yes, so have fun with it. As always try to get everything in before next Monday and we'll all be happy and cheery

ATTENTION STAFF |

|
|
Staff: Important information concerning e-mail addresses, please read this carefully.
Setting up e-mail addresses is a HUGE pain, and Tomato has done a lot of the work already, but there is still stuff to be done. I'd like to get our forwarders, aliases, pops, and mailing lists all sorted out carefully, so I want all of you on staff to e-mail the following information to me:
Do you have (or need) a POP or a forwarder? --- If you have a forwarder, what is your username, and what e-mail address does it forward to? --- If you have a POP account, what is your username?
All staffers must have a Starmen.Net e-mail address, whether it is a forwarder or a POP account. This is why ALL staff are required to e-mail me about this. Any who don't e-mail me quickly will make me very mad and I probably won't take the time to mess with your e-mail stuff in the future, so do it or I'll sic Super Buddha on you.
Also, if you can't check your e-mail, thats because you haven't switched your username in your mail account settings. Your username now must have '@starmen.net' appended to it. For example, previously I logged into my mail account with just 'reidman' as my username. Now, I must login with 'reidman@starmen.net'.
The reason that all of this is so important is because I need to send some very important information to all of you soon. So, please, respond as quick as possible so I can get things going. Thanks.
As a side note to all the users: We've got $318 in donations now, which is amazing. I appreciate everything you donors are doing for us, please allow me some more time to get things sorted out. You WILL be contacted in the near future so we can figure out if there's anything you might want in return (like a forum rank/badge, email address, etc).

Cool New Stuff |

|
|
In between all of our crazy server business, I managed to get a few cool things done. One, I changed how listings of pictures in all of the Merchandise pages looks. Before, the pictures were listed as numbers. Now, I went through all the pages that needed it and changed the links so they say what they are, like the front of the guidebook, the back, etc. Well uh, it's just more USER-FRIENDLY.
Second, I posted 3 new pieces of merchandise, listed below:Along with that, I compiled a .zip file of the Mother 2 instruction booklet for your personal use. I also corrected the EarthBound Player's Guide page, pertaining the info on how to get the player's guide through a Nintendo Power subscription, which you CAN'T anymore. By the way, if anyone saved a pic of the "I LOVE IF" T-shirt we were selling for a limited time only, please send it to me and I will reward you with a forum rank or something.
Lastly, I'm pretty sure I'll be broadcasting radio at the usual time tomorrow. If something comes up I'll let you guys know on the forums. So tune in, should be cool. Ah.. that's about it. I'll pro'oly get to some new auctions tomorrow. HAPPY EB HALLOWEEN!

New Poll |

|
|
I would like to thank Mr. Xod for fixing the polls I kept screwing up. Here are the results from the last one:
Out of these EB tunes, what's your favorite?
Runaway Five Music: 22.06%
Other: 20.38%
Devil's Machine Battle: 18.91%
Onett: 15.76%
Fourside: 13.87%
Saturn Valley: 9.03%
Total Votes: 476
I know the last poll kept screwing up so I don't know how scientific it is. Anyway, I wanted the next poll to have more choices, but I screwed it up again, and people don't seem to like too many choices anyway. So just vote for what you would most likely do.

Yay to Xod for fixing everything. My emails are working now, so go ahead and send all of your updated sites that I missed. I'll count them next time. Everything^3 |

|
|
Hey there boys and girls; if you're seeing this page, then you're seeing it from our sweet, sweet new server. We have big plans for this server in the future, especially for the summer. However, some more important matters to attend to first:
-- HELP KEEP STARMEN.NET ALIVE WITH A DONATIONWe're in quite a financial pinch here at Starmen.Net, and need all the help we can get. Click the button below for information on donating:
Keep in mind that we love our donors and will be working to make it worth their while to donate. When you go to the submit page, you will see it being sent to Starmen.Net via rwyoung@purdue.edu -- no, thats not some random psycho getting the money, that is my e-mail address here at Purdue University. And, since I'm in charge of all the financial stuff for Starmen.Net, all the money goes through me. If you question my trustworthiness, feel free to ask around on the Starmen.Net Forum, I'm confident that the people who have sent me donations in the past will vouch for me.
Our current donation status is slightly over $100 thanks to a monster donation from Tokage-san and two sizeable donations from saintpanda and EB64. Thanks so much to you guys; we truly appreciate it and we hope we'll be able to pay you back in the near future when we get stuff sorted out here.
-- PERFECTION HAS A CATCHAs sweet and awesome as this new server is, there IS a catch, albeit a minor one (we were expecting something far more serious than this to pop up, so I guess we should be thankful that it isn't something huge).
Allow me to explain with this excerpt from Starmen.Net: The Promised Land:
All of the staffers (and many non-staffers) had FTP accounts on our old webhost; these FTP accounts were plentiful and grew off of trees. We feasted on their lucious fruit daily, and sometimes spread them on our toasted bandwidth. However, one day the rain stopped falling from the Communitech sky, and it was time for our people to move on. reidman bravely trudged through hundreds of faxes, e-mails, IM's, phonecalls, and server agreements in order to pioneer a brave new world where his people would once again be free to roll in the dew-covered grass of the forum.
reidman persevered and eventually uncovered a land named Hostcentric. Bandwidth and webspace flowed like milk and honey from the river named 'Dedicated PIII Box', and everyone was happy. It seemed too good to be true, until one day reidman realized that none of the staffers were updating. He grabbed his battle axe and prepared to begin dispensing with indiscriminate justice, when he was stopped by the hand of Xod.
"reidman!" "Yes?" "Do not become angry with the staffers. They cannot update." "Why, Xod, WHY?" "Because extra FTP accounts cost $2 per account per month." "...oh." So, anyway... yeah. That sort of sucks, especially since we need like 20 FTP accounts, so we're looking into our options. This is why none of the staff have updated yet - they have no way of updating. Be patient with us.
-- I GET MY NEW PARTS TOMORROW :DI'm updating from my college's scary computer lab right now, but I get my new motherboard and RAM in tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be back at it in the afternoon. I've got craploads of stuff to do, so don't expect me to be back and updating regularly tomorrow, but hopefully in a week things will be going well. I have finals from Monday through Friday of next week, so I won't be around an awful lot then either, probably.
-- DEATH TO THE UBBWe're going to kill the UBB and start all over again hopefully. There are tons of things wrong with it and everything is crazy. If you have some kind of thread that you CANNOT live without (IF users come to mind) then back it up, because we're wiping everything out (including all the user accounts) for the reinstallation. To all you who had massively high post counts - sorry :(
Thats all for now. Hopefully we'll get things back to normal around here soon.

New Poll |

|
|
The new SM.net poll is up. The results for last time were interesting. It seems a lot more people seem to like simple polls. Here are the results:
Do you have the actual SNES EarthBound cart?
Yes, it is super: 74.62%
No, I use...other means: 25.38%
Total Votes: 461
The next poll is about your favorite music in EB. Hopefully I covered enough areas. I didn't want to make a huge list of the vast number of songs in EB. GO VOTE!!

EarthBound for $200 BUCKS?! |

|
|
Yeah, some crazy guy is selling his EarthBound cart. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? Geesh. Anyway, I have a new list of Auctions for you folks, and a new picture for the Mother 2 Essential Strategies thanks to Otaku.com. And now the auctions roll in...This was another rushed update by Aquas, because of the circumstances of him hitting the refresh button as updating, everything he had was erased and had to be re-do. I need some video relaxant right about now. (EarthBound)

My mental capability is gone right now. Apple of Enlightenment has been updated. The Winners of Nessy Python have been announced. To current news,
This week's prediction is: What if the Runaway 5 were a Eurodisco group?
If you don't know, Eurodisco is like ABBA, smile.dk, Miss Papaya, Bambee, stuff like that. Have fun with it. And try to keep files sizes down. I'd offer vocal assistance to anyone who needs it, except it'd be a conflict of interest. Unless you don't care about winning. Either way, get everything in before Monday of next week. Oh, and the heading is about how the last three weeks have had a European theme to it. Sorry.

Hi-ho, Fan Melee be updated again. Go and enter, and stuff. Although I'd really prefer if you didn't, because, let's face it; you haven't got a chance of winning, and you'd be just one more entry in my inbox that I have to look at.
Anyway, I also got a few more screenshots, and you can find those in the Fan Shots section, oddly enough.
NOTE: If you've sent me any screen shots this week, you might want to resend them. I got a pile of virus-related e-mails, so I just went through my inbox and deleted pretty much everything with a large attachment and/or vague subject.
ANOTHER NOTE: I was gonna update yesterday, but I had a small time-related delay. This snowballed into several time-related delays, and my update was postponed. But I've updated now, so everybody's happy. Those who aren't happy will receive a complementary SPoD.

Halfway! |

|
|
I believe the topic speaks for itself; we're halfway to our goal of 30,000 signatures for the petition! Obviously, things have slowed down a little bit, but the petition IS still going, and we'll not be stopping our work on it. Keep in mind that we haven't tapped ANY of the potential signatures in the vast sea of Japanese Mother fans out there, something we hope to begin work on in the coming weeks.
There are a lot of sites which have helped recently, and I sincerely thank all of them; please, once again, if you notice that a site posts news about the Mother 3 Petition, let us know so we can thank them when the petition is over.
I've been working on lots of background stuff for the petition, hopefully when my coming exams are over (temporarily) on Tuesday I'll get to work on a cool poster/flyer/handwritten petition form you guys can print out to help support the petition and make this a truly original effort. This isn't just ANY petition :)

Hey-ho. Fan Melee has been updated. This time I decided to pit Ness against Mewtwo, just for fun. Who will emerge victorious? Only time will tell. Or maybe Ms. Cleo.
Oh, and more good news: I'll almost certainly be getting a video capture device within the next couple of weeks. Of course, then I'll have to find something to use it for, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Blargh |

|
Its very late and I have to get up very early, so I don't have a lot to say except that I've been contacting some gaming sites about the Mother 3 Petition, and I thank those who replied and offered their support. NO thanks to the handful of people who were jerks and didn't even read my email, instead responding instantly with a 'We Hate Petitions' prewritten letter; you'll all wish you'd lent a hand when Mother 3 is released >;)
There won't be any printable petition forms for roughly a week, as I have two important exams coming up on Monday and Tuesday. Keep your eyes here, though, as we're bound to break the halfway mark any day soon.
Also, stuff on the forum is sorta freaking out, but hopefully Xod and Mato will figure that out.

In other news, it was Dive by BeForU. On the Apple of Enlightenment front, the 50th prediction was the best one I've run so far. A lot of good entries, but only three people won the topic EarthBond. But four badges were given how. How? Look and see. Good work from everyone though. Keep it up. By the way,
This week's prediction is: What if EarthBound was a Monty Python sketch?
Have fun with it, remember to keep it clean and proper, even though it IS Monty Python. Oh, and as I'm gone this week (leaving tomorrow) to be a part of my team repesenting my school and the Waterloo region at the Canadian Improv Games, there WILL BE NO MINI UPDATE FOR THIS TOPIC!!! The due date is STILL before next Monday, but there will be no post reminding you of this, as I won't have computer access. So don't forget and leave me with a grand total of four entries.

Polls Updated |

|
|
Sorry for the delay in a new poll. Things got funky and only Xod could save the day. Here are the results from the last one:
If official flyers for the petition were available on SM.net, what would you do with them?
All of the above.: 51.99%
Manage to get them into gaming/computer stores.: 24.55%
Hand them out to friends/peers.: 10.11%
NO! I will do nothing because I don't want Mother 3! :P: 6.50%
Get them posted in school.: 3.61%
Post them on telephone poles.: 3.25%
Total Votes: 277
So there you have it. BTW, all of the above did NOT include doing nothing. Anyway, this week's poll may seem a little boring, but I didn't want to write up some huge thing in case the polls weren't working. GO NOW!
