The polls are updated. Here are the results from last week: What would you like to see improved in EarthBound?
Storyline/Character Interaction: 36.47%
Graphics: 29.08%
Battle System: 25.73%
Sound/Music: 8.72%
Total Votes: 447
Storyline/Character Interaction means the chosen four talking to each other more, and additional sidequests for instance. I hope that was the impression people got, because it was the most popular. OK, so go vote this week too please.
Articles has been updated! Not only that, but I archived (finally). Afterwards I ran around screaming "I am the Archiving MASTUH!". So, if you've had an article posted in the entire time I've been working here, it's in the archives. Oh, and If I ever, EVER put off archiving for that long again, you have my permission to shove my head in a toilet and give me a monster swirly.
Oh! And A big Awesome-Super-Fantastic Happy Birthday to reidman! You never cease to amaze me, reido. Also, we TOTALLY missed Skulryk's birthday, which was on the 23rd. Sorry Skul! Happy Belated B-day!
Greetings! 'Tis I, The Artist Formerly Known As CPTCrunch, using my ancient update account that hasn't been deleted in the two years since I last used it to interrupt your regularly scheduled insanity for the following public service announcement:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY REIDMAN! WOOOOOO!
That's right! It's reidman's happy happy 20th birthday! Make sure you discuss at the forums and in #earthbound how much you appreciate your beloved evil Czar. If you really want to make him happy, send a donation to the site as a sort of gift. Those e-cards are sooooooo lame.
He might even tell you "thanks," if he can get his creaky old back to bend enough to get his eight foot beard out of the way and climb out of his rocking chair. Or he might just wave his cane at you whippersnappers and maybe call the cops. That's what I'd do.
A massive update with FANART. If you art wasn't posted, it's because I felt like there was enough art being shown at this point in time. Also with fanart, the winners of the Box Art Contest have their work shown in their respective galleries, so you can go check out their winning entries HERE. (except evolsoulX - awarded for numerous ideas, just not one)
COMICS also has a big update with TANI getting her own section now known as KOMA KOMICS! Paper's /EarthBound has also been updated and there are a few new comics from others artists as well.
The ART THEME for fanart has changed and is a PREPATORY theme to get ready for the impending contest that will be taking place in May. You may wonder what it is? Then head to Fanart to check it out.
Rock Candy 4 is going ok at the moment with many musicians hard at work. There is one song that I told a musician that it wasnt going to be on RC4, well it is and its a Saturn Valley Remix. If you are this musician, please IM me. I forgot who submitted it. As for all the other musicians that have the talent and aren't working on music, please, we need some good tunes for RC4! You get a disc if the song gets accepted so try to work on some tunes for the upcoming Rock Candy!
Also, please support our musicians here on the site! They need your support and shown interest in their music to keep them going to make music! Please show the love to all the musicians and just not one or two! :D
BTW, it's a SPECIAL person's Birthday here on the site. I dont want to say who it is but they know who they are so, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
For fans of the new Zelda, here are some spiffy songs that hopefully you will enjoy! The Tradition of Zeruda! :D
SLings Secret Screenshots has not been updated this week due to the fact that only one person got it. You can probably guess who got it, too. So, a hint is up.
No, Trivia has not been updated today. I did not put up five new questions.
The Big Rhino, Colin-, Diamond Dog, EB Espeon, EBisumaru, EvilJim Christo, FalconPain, GGCrono4, Ghost of Foppy, Giampi, Great White Travis, kingrick56, Krem, Mr. Joshua, N3ss's N1ghtmar3, Name, Napa, Paper, PSI322 and Tobias26 did not earn Tomatoes last week.
I've been meaning to put that up for three weeks and I kept forgetting, so now it's up, with huge apologies to Skulryk, who's been a really good sport about the whole thing, what with the playful insults and all. You da man, Skul! You do Fanthoughts and you don't take prisoners! :D
My letter at End of the Beginning: Birth of an Overused Slogan has been updated! If you're a regular or staffer, this latest update is required reading. If you're new the site, you might wanna check it out so you can see how things go around here.
In other news, GUESS WHO IS CLEARED TO SWITCH OUT OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING? WOOOOOOOOO!
Well I am here to announce that this is the start of the first phase of the Starmen.net Webcomic and I am now accepting submissions for the site's hosted comic. If you want to have the possibility of becoming the site comic artist...
Now this is a MUST front page mention, here are the things I DONT want to see in the comic entries.
NO sprite comics NO cheaply made comics in MS Paint or fast hand sketching. NO spamburgers
All entrants must e-mail me their peliminary sketches &/or their sample comic(s) and a typed (well thought out) propostition of their comic concept. Title of the e-mail must start with "COMIC"
The top comics will be rounded up and polled on the site for the best one and the staffers will evaluate them as well to which one will become the site hosted webcomic.
After a long dearth of content, I bring you...STUFF!
KindarSpirit has updated her EarthBound Zero FAQ & Walkthrough with some new secrets and goodies. You should also go check out her site, Magicant. She's got a new section up there comparing Mother to EarthBound Zero. Even though there was only ever a prototype here in North America, the differences are several, and some are quite large. Fascinating read, if you're like me, or if you like Tomato's M2EB.
You know what? I'm excited. And not just about all the news concerning EB, though that's certainly a part of it. After this Monday, the only thing I have to worry about is AP exams. I will be free from oppressing assignments until next fall! You know what that means? I'll tell you:
I may actually update more than once a month!
Of course, it's not like me being busy has anything to do with y'all not sending me stuff. I'm sure I won't have to worry about lack of content for much longer, though, what with the rerelease right around the corner. Right?
Just kidding, it is just a song name! And Flukes have been updated! Hall O' Fame and Hall O' Shame have also been returned to their former glory! Tons of cool people helped pick the flukes that rocked and anti-rocked this time, with names like Moochie, Grandpa, bloop, EvilChao2, Ryanbomber, Yutz, Stubby, Steve, UWA, and Collin. If you didn't make your choices in time, don't sweat it, just gotta move faster than me next update. For flukes to make it to the Hall O' Fame or Hall O' Shame, they had to have had more than one vote. Also, don't make flukes for the Hall O' Shame on purpose, if you are in the Hall O' Shame then everyone will hate your children and they will hit your with their shoes in other countries. One interesting tidbit; SuperCow had votes all across the board for Hall O' Shame, but people just couldn't decide which flukes they disliked in paticular, so he/she missed the Hall O' Shame beating this time around.
On an awesome note, people who have been participating in the UD Cancer Project distributed computing team for Starmen.net have been racking up the data! Check out our team stats here. You may have noticed that UD moved their stats over to grid.org, that is just a server change, still the same company. Right now, the Starmen.net Cancer Team is ranked #233 in members, #588 in total CPU time, #571 in points returned, and #660 in results returned. I'll be putting those numbers in each update, let's move up those ranks! Download the Cancer Project program today, it is for a good cause. Check out the grid.org website for information about it. reid, of course, has seemingly slaved all of Purdue's computers to his UD name, but other cool people include slickice11, Fershnickety, and spaanoft, who each have over a YEAR of CPU time. Overall, team Starmen.net has 21 years, 203 days, 10 hours, 56 minutes, and 19 seconds of crunched cancer data. That totally rocks! Keep it up guys :).
Hey there, this is a fake update that pretends to be an update. For all of you that don't check the Starmen.net Discussion, I sent out the Flukes for HoF/HoS review a few minutes ago. If you are on that list of people that gave me your email addresses, and you didn't get the email, check that you can get attachments, that you spelled your email right in your post, and your coolness factor. If any are negative then there is your problem. I also just realized that I sent the email out through my work email instead of wampa@starmen.net, so don't think you are clever, because chances are that you are not.
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains All the cops have wooden legs And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs The farmers' trees are full of fruit And the barns are full of hay Oh I'm bound to go Where there ain't no snow Where the rain don't fall The winds don't blow In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
Polls are updated! Here are the results from last week:
Do you plan on importing Mother 1+2 for GBA?
No, I'm going to wait for it to come here: 78.55%
OH YEAH! : 18.11%
No, I don't plan on getting it at all: 3.34%
Total Votes: 359
As for the MP3 of the week, I've decided to discontinue it. Xod has hax0red and ogglized his SNES or something to produce really good Digital Recordings. Hopefully he'll keep making more. But if you really want my MP3 thing to come back then let me know.
But in the mean time, vote in this week's poll. It's about improvements you would like to see in EarthBound. I'm not sure if I've done this poll before or not, but that's ok! Go vote.
[EDIT] I keep getting emails saying "OMG EBOUNDING! HOW CAN YOU ASK HOW EARTHBOUND CAN BE IMPROVED?! EARTHBOUND IS PERFECT!". Well personally I don't think any game is perfect. Although EarthBound is my favorite game of all time, I find myself imagining some things that would have been really cool to see in the game and I know other people imagined such things too. I wouldn't like to see anything taken away, but I would like to see some things added. That's why I didn't put "Nothing" as an option. I actually thought about it, but when people vote in polls they seem to think "OH NO, if it looks like I don't like EarthBound in the least, I'm a horrible person and the SM.net monster will attack me and my dog with flesh eating virii!". I assure you that WON'T happen. I found this mentality to be true in a couple previous polls. So if you really wouldn't like to see anything different in EarthBound, don't vote in the poll. OK! BYE!
The Mother 3 Petition Aftermathematics page has been updated with two sexy new sections (which will, from here on, be called 'sexytions'): an overview of the project and the persuasion tech page.
Whether you do or don't know anything about the petition, you'll probably want to read the Overview, as it contains some cool background on the petition you probably didn't know about. Unless you're me. And if you're me then you're probably responsible for stealing my sleep, in which case I'm coming for you and I want it all back.
The other awesomely awesome addition to the petition report is the long-awaited PERSUASION TECH, a compilation of the most hilarious petition signatures. If you need cheering up, this file is for you. Enjoy; it took me a long time to make all the cuts, because there were quite a few funny sigs. Here's my personal favorite:
"I loved Earth Bound It changed my life made me play RPGs faster and I stopped going out side"
That's right, I'm now starting the Starmen.Net Linkies! To make it simple, I nominate a few sites, and you guys vote for the best of that category. I also need help in nominating and I would like a few more catagories. Visit the site in order to get the details. I also made it the EBSS so that it gets your attention. Today's Updated Sites:
Have you updated your site recently? Would you like your site to be listed in updated sites? All you have to do is email updatedsites@starmen.net with your site's name and url.
Are you not in the links? Would like to get listed? Send an email to links@starmen.net containing your site's name and url, and you'll be all fixed up.
I've changed around the music sections in the Mother 2 section slightly, and also added a new "Original Music" section. I've only recorded four songs. More may come in the future, or not.
Yessss, that's right, the SB is here to make your Good Friday into a great Friday! How's he gonna do that, you ask? By announcing not only Mother 3, but also Mother 4? Or perhaps by shooting himself in the stomach with a giant cannonball that has a Mr. Saturn painted on it? No sirree Bob and that's my name so I must be your uncle whether or not you're a monkey! I am going to make your day great with FANFICTION!
Articles has been updated! A lot of goodies for you. Including a really cool Interview with one of the guys that helped bring you EBZ, a SSB related article, and yes, some mystery writerage. Enjoy!
Dudes, I got so many articles in the past 2 days! It's been awesome. The way the article section should work. So keep them coming. Keep me on my toes. Make me work hard! articles@starmen.net
Oh, And I hear that you guys still haven't submitted to Jakob Dorof's SM.net book. You guys, whats up? He needs articles, you write articles. It should be simple! Get in gear!
Well folks, the biggest reason that I haven't updated my letter yet is because I've been working on the Petition Aftermathematics Report. Go check it out; all it has right now is the timeline, but its pretty interesting. I've got a HUGE amount of content which I will be adding to that section over the coming days. Some really awesome stuff to look forward to is the gag reel of funny signatures that we picked out from the sig checker, some cool pictures, and the statistics report, in which I'll provide more cool/useless numbers than you can shake a stick at.
Oh yeah, since I never made an official post about it, here, in Really Big Numbers(c), is the final signature count for the Mother 3 Petition:
31,338 SIGNATURES HOLY CRAP
I thought that having 31337 signatures might be sorta suspicious, so now instead of being elite, we're eleeb! Nintendo won't be able to resist us now!
Anyway, be sure to keep an eye out for a lot more updates to come. Probably late Saturday afternoon after I recover from my super sleep deficit. BALEETED!
The news about the Mother 1 + 2 compilation has been published in Nintendo power! Check it out here!
The article talks about the recent announcement, gives a little blurb on Mother 1 and 2 (with screenshots and pictures) and captures our enthusiasm fairly well.
Also, here's something pretty interesting from the article:
Fans of the quirky SNES RPG Earthbound are among the most dedicated in the video game world...
You bet we are...
Also, in case you can't read some of the stuff on the side, here's what it said:
"Hooray! Huzzah! Oh, rapturous day! Nintendo has announced plans for the Japanese release of the games Mother 1 and 2 on a single pak for the GBA. No word yet on a North American version, but stay tuned!"
Pretty freaking awesome... A huge huge thanks to Daimyou to bringing this to my attention and scanning the pic, and thanks to AoE for putting the SM.Net watermark on it. YAY!
