SM.Net Halloween Funfest '02! |

|
|

Yay! It's time for arguably one of the coolest events Starmen.Net has to offer: the SM.Net Halloween Funfest! This is our 4th Halloween funfest in as many years, and if the last three are any indicator, this year's will be just as super mega awesome.
This year, Eggy will be pulling the strings behind the Halloween funfest section. You've seen how much he updates, so hopefully we'll see tons of funfest updates too!
Oh yeah, I'm still waiting on Plo to get me the new logo and leftbar pic. Mr. Plo, help!
Anyway, go check out the Halloween Funfest and start submittin' some more of those spooky entries! Boo!

GiS Isn't Lazy ^_^ |

|
|
It seems to be a trend here now, doesn't it? I'm not getting enough content for my section, either. So be good little girls and boys and submit to Starmen.net. Pedestrian is sending in new parts to his impressive "LimerickBound" every week.. It's worth a read. And PSI332 resubmitted her Ghost Town series in a cool new html format. Nice! Submit and be happy. ^_^

Pitiful! |

|
|
Unlike my fellow updating contests staffer, I can't postpone my trivia update another week. And it's not necessarily because I haven't gotten a lot of submissions; if it were for that, I'd be postponing myself!
Anyways, of the six people who submitted, no one got every question right. I had two 60%. Two people passed. (see update title)!

A reprieve! |

|
|
Due to the fact that I have recieved a rediculously small amount of submissions, (and even less correct answers,) the current Secret Screenshot will be open until next Sunday. So, you have an extra week of Screenshot goodness! Go to it!

Oh bloody.... >_<;; |

|
|
Hehe... umm, yeah, I know, I know... I'm late sending out the Newsletter ^_^;; Thing is, I was at a family function last night... long ride home, got tired, fell asleep as soon as I got home... you get the idea. The minute I woke up, I was like "Oh, CRAP! The Newsletter!" So I stumbled over to my computer and sent it out >_< But that's a reason, not an excuse. My sincerest apologies for not adhering to my update day :(
At any rate, I have a complaint. Like GiS, I'm not getting enough submissions to the various sections of the Newsletter! And y'know what? My birthday's tomorrow! (Yay me!) Y'know what I'd like to get even more than presents? Submissions!
...Pretty please? ^_^

The forum is currently being improved...hopefully. While you wait, why not wash your cat? If you do not have a cat, go outside, grab some wildlife, and wash it. I hear that wolverines are especially dirty this time of year.

*Yaaawwwwn*
It's time for another characteristic GiS midnight update! By now you should know two things - I always update on the day I say I will, and I almost always do so in the last few hours or minutes of said day. But hey, this isn't a problem.
You want to know what IS a problem? Mailbag entries dropped almost 40% this week. Drop dead awful. I know you guys have the power to do the Mailbag thing. So get out there and Mailbag thing! I mean, who's to say someday gold Letter of the Week people won't earn a badge? It could happen. ...until then, be proud of your appearance at the Hall of Fame. This week's winner is Psionic Brawler. YAY HIM!
This week's topic is: Have you ever done something in EarthBound you thought you weren't supposed to?
For instance, when I dropped into Lost Underworld for the first time, I thought I had screwed up big time and killed off everybody. It might be hard to write a really good letter for this topic, but the challenge makes the reward so much more worth it. This topic is brought to you by OmniPenguin, the person who got to pick the topic. My question to you is - did you not want to choose the topic? 'cuz I got three entries for that. Three. 3. Tres. Trois. San. Lousy.
AND AS PUNISHMENT for you poor performance this week, I brought out SimonBob to correspond. Buahaha!! ...okay, so SimonBob's cool and I would've brought him anyway. So go to Mailbag RIGHT NOW. It isn't that painful. On the other hand, if I get less than 15 good messages this week, I WILL bring out the Hello Kitty curse. Don't make me. You don't want to. And to leave on a happy note, thanks to those who did submit. Yay for Aquas 'cuz radio pwns. So, in the words of Arad, peace out! ^_^

Hey, it's me. Radio will be up all day today, playing random stuff again, more like soothing, dunno. The address to connect again is starmen.net:6660, CTRL L in winamp and put that in. Remember, even if I'm not updating about radio, there's a good chance it will be up friday through sat night. Send requests if you like, I've still got a bunch of requests from last week, which I will pro'lly play tonight, if I'm not doing anything. So.. whatever. Oh yeah, posted new Auctions, and cleaned up some of the sections.Yes... *jams*

...Whoops, other house.
SLings Secret Screenshots has been updated yet again with a super-sweet screenshot! It's an SSS for SSS! What fun. Kudos to everyone that got it last week, you're awesome! I'm deeming this week a success due to the fact that there were two forum topics asking me why SSS was a black square, and I got one phonecall asking the same. Yes, FlatFace really is that crazy.
In other super-important news:
SSS will no longer be updated on wednesday. The new update day is sunday. So, instead of having 7 days to do this weeks screenshot, you only have 4. Good luck! I'll see you all on sunday!

*cough* Great, great... I've been attacked by a conglomeration of various minor illnesses, resulting in a sort of coughing-sneezing-sore throat-stomachache-nausea-dealie-thing x_x *cough* To make matters worse, I'm in that sort of gray area where ya feel really lousy, but you're not quite ill enough to be allowed to stay home from school. Lucky me ^_^;;
Err, anyways, I sent out Issue Seven of The Weekly Starstorm. Last week was the first week in a while in which no one experienced any real problems (that I know of), and I hope it stays that way! ^_^ Still, if anyone out there still IS having problems, don't hesitate let me know.
If you haven't already signed up for the Newsletter, you can do so here, OK? ^_^

Look at the Time! |

|
|
Wow! GiS is updating and it's not close to midnight! We've got a nice truckload of stuff here, folks!
1) Mailbag is updated, obviously. Go enjoy it as much as you can, and then submit to it!
This week's topic is: Have you ever laughed out loud or cried while playing EarthBound? When?
You know the drill...submit your best answer as to how EarthBound has emotionally touched you as it did all of us. At least, I think it did. Maybe not. That's why you have to write and tell us!
2) Hall of Fame has been updated, naturally. carryabigbat is the big winner this week, folks. YAY CABB!
3) We had a co-responder this week! Can you guess who? It's StarmanDeluxe, our good old ex-Mailbag person. Hear his last hurrah! Another great reason to go read the Mailbag!
4) Listen up! Next week, I'm going to let YOU choose the topic! If you want to participate in this fun little event, just email me with the subject "Topic Suggestion" telling me what you think the topic should be next week. If you win...well, then I use your topic. Duh! ^_^ The best topics are those that can be answered in detail and provoke debates and controversy. I can be reached at guyinsummers@starmen.net and I await your suggestions.
5) I believe it was Fireside who complained that when you read the archived Mailbags, you had no idea what everybody was talking about. Thus, I have gone through every single one of the recent Mailbags and changed them so that the topic can be seen in the Title up in your Title Bar. Thank me for doing that, but most importantly thank Fireside for suggesting it.
Well, that's about all for this week! It's been really fun doing the Mailbag thing, and I can tell you I'm not leaving any time soon. It's great here. Now, I really, REALLY have to get to that festival of the Harvest Moon and meet the mayor. Starts at 6, y'know? Ciao!

One Of These Nights |

|
|
You ever have one of those days where you made plans, but then they fell through because someone else made other plans for you, and when all was said and done your own plans went straight out the window? That's what happened to my Fanfic update last week. To set the record straight: It was my birthday, and I was planning to do a "big" update that would celebrate this fact. I wasn't counting on being driven to tiredness by the wild party I had. The rest of the weekend was spent appreciating how Fatboy Slim stacked up against Tenacious D. (The D won by disqualification, due to interference from the Canadian Brass.)
So here's the long-lost update that would've happened a week earlier if I wasn't tired, and an hour earlier if Hotmail hadn't been acting so stupid. Send new 'fics to this address in particular. And say hi to Spiny FM if you get the chance. 'K, ciao.

Woo woo woo woo woo!
Remember the EGM article from a while ago? If not, refresh your memory with the news section.
Well, it doesn't seem like that was just a red herring! We've got another update on this from Q-Mann himself.
READ HERE NOW GO GO GO
No starmen.net mention this time, but I personally don't really care! This is Mother 3! This has been the 3rd thing we've heard about Mother 3 on it's way SOON in a very short time, and I think this is very promising for the future of Mother 3.
Now, I'm sure you'll want to go ahead and POST ON THE FORUM TOPIC right now, so go ahead.
Mad propz to Kubirio and ScottyDog for pointing this out on the forums and to Everdraed for scanning it up even though he had to fix his broken scanner. Yay yay yay!

Well, for his help anyway :D I'm not even going to go into the complicated mess I've had as far as my FTP probs... but thanks for Tomato and Xod for being patient. Now I have a new FTP prog thanks to Eggy! My updates have been very late, and no one even e-mailed me about it! O_o Wow, I wonder if that is good or bad. So my updates will resume starting tomorrow, with theories and fixing some PHP stuff.

Be nice, SLing! |

I sent out Issue Six of the Weekly Starstorm! Yay! ^_^ But, as usual, that's not why I'm updating. I have some things to say... again >_<;;
First of all, if you've already read this week's issue of the Newsletter, you'll notice that the newspaper-esque section (News in Brief, Help Wanted, Classifieds, etc.) is gone. It should be pretty obvious why I got rid of it - it just wasn't funny! I'm really not good at coming up with satirical humor; thus, this section always came out seeming either really dry or really stupid -_-;; I don't think it really added anything anyways, so it's no more! If for some strange reason there were a few people out there that actually liked it, let me know and I may consider trying to make it work again. I can't imagine that anyone would actually have liked it, but you never know >_<
Second, I'm still getting e-mails from people that want me to add them to the Newsletter mailing list. To be honest, it makes me feel bad to have to personally say "I can't do it! You'll have to do it yourself!" so many times! For the record, it is impossible for me to personally add anyone's e-mail address to the mailing list, but having to say it over and over again kind of makes me feel like I'm failing someone somehow... If your e-mail is malfunctioning and will let you receive messages, but not send them out, then, well, my apologies... there really isn't much I can do to help you :( If your e-mail is working fine and you'd like to be added to the mailing list, you can sign up here ^_^ OK?
Ah, one more thing... I'd like to take this opportunity to politely remind SLing that his section requires a tad less work to maintain than many of the others on Starmen.net (the Mailbag and Mother 2 sections come to mind...) If a person updates a bit later than he or she should every so often, it doesn't mean that he or she works less hard (or harder) than anyone else ^_^

Hi, conventions, petitions, mugz0rz, etc |

|
|
I decided to take a break from my hiatus (think about that one for a while) today to do a bunch of stuff for the site. A lot of what I did was behind-the-scenes stuff, but I've still got quite a few things to report on this fine Sunday morning. I actually started writing this update on Saturday afternoon and all I was going to say was that the convention page was updated, but its now 2 AM and I'm still adding stuff to it :)
First off, I updated the Starmen.Net Convention - Summer 2001 page with a new chapter. It only took me 5 months to do... :) Go check it out, and hope that I find time to update it again soon, but keep in mind that I will sic my puppy on anyone who emails me and whines about it not being updated.
Jonk wanted me to begin hyping up his latest pet project, NP Siege III. If you don't know about the NP Siege series, check out the NP Siege II Page. NP Siege II was an extremely successful project, and we think that this one will do even better. If you'd like to see some of the current entries, check out the NP Siege Topic in the Fan Forum. There are some REAL cool envelope entries, and it hasn't really even started yet. Now get your colored pencils out and prepare for the Siege!
In petition news, you'll notice that we broke 24,000 today! Thanks once again to the few staffers who still check the signature queue; hopefully we'll have to be doing a whole lot of checking soon. For all two of you who speak Japanese, you'll be glad to know that, thanks to Makkun, we now have a Japanese Petition Page. We'll be working with some of our old Japanese friends like Apollo Captain (if he doesn't hate us for switching servers 300 times) and some of the webmasters of the larger Mother sites to get the word out. The Japanese community has thousands and thousands of visitors who know nothing about our petition, so if you speak Japanese or can help us out in any way, please email me.
For all of you who have been wanting a Starmen.Net Second Edition mugz0r, here's your chance! Cafepress decided (quite randomly) to put all the mugs on sale, so our mug costs $12 now ($4 off), and Starmen.Net still sees $4 of it! Its an awesome way to help support the site because you get something cool out of it. If you're interested, head over to the Starmen.Net Online Store.
In my -2 hours of free time each day I try to work on the next Starmen.Net design. All I'll say so far is that its going to be very very different from anything you've seen on Starmen.Net to this point; between now and the time when I made this current design, I've designed roughly 5 or 6 big websites. With all of this experience, I've learned a lot of tricks and I've got a lot of design ideas that I'd like to try out on Starmen.Net. So, anyway, yeah. Don't get too excited, though, cuz it'll be a long time before I get it done, and even longer before it gets implemented. But, who knows...here at Starmen.Net, the best things (like server changes) happen very quickly and without any prior warning.
And, as my final news announcement tonight, everyone be sure to email Plo and wish him a happy birthday. Here are some commemorative birthday pictures that are just dripping with sentiment of his happy days here at Starmen.Net. These pictures (the second one courtesy of the illustrious Jonk) do a breathtaking job of capturing the beauty, the awe, and the wonder that is Plo and his hard trivia:

We salute you, Steve!
