I'd like to finally announce the winners of the NP Siege II contest! I couldn't bear to mention only 3 envelopes as the winners, so I decided to do a lot of honorable mentions as well :)
Honorable Mentions:
All of these winners were picked according to effort, creativity, and overall awesomefulnessissity. For example, Lis Vender's submission was extremely creative, and Skul obviously put massive amounts of effort into making 11 envelopes. The reason that no staffers are in the top 3 winners is because, obviously, they already have Starmen.Net mugz0rz :) As for the top 3 winners, please e-mail me and confirm your mailing addresses so I can mail your Starmen.Net mugz0rz (woo hoo!) to you as soon as possible. Now, aside from that huge update, I've got another. As you can see all around the site, I've been working on the topbar and leftbars. I've also redone a few things in the EarthBound 0 and EarthBound 64 sections. Hopefully I'll finish this up tomorrow, after which I'll have very little time to do much stuff this week. Yep, the Mother 1 complete Guidebook. Now for the EBQ answer.. I sorta goofed up, my answer was the wrong answer. Which I realized when guruzeth e-mail'd me his answer... which is the right one. I was thinking that the Hint Guy talks like a valley-girl in Scaraba, when what he says depends on what point you are in the game, not location. Hmm.. well anyway, guru was the only winner. I have a very interesting piece of information here! Yay yay yay! I can't exactly be the judge of this or anything, but Itoi is involved in some meetings with Nintendo executives involving the Game boy Advance! Itoi himself put some pictures up of his meetings with Nintendo executives. This could end up developing into something in the future! Check out this site here. Be sure to check out the site, even if you can't read Japanese, there's enough you can understand to get to all 6 of the meetings, and you can still look at the pretty pictures! |

MY GOD I'm never gonna convert the Mother 2 section. I am now officially sick of converting stuff to new designs. If reid comes out with a new design he'll have to build a robot replacement of me, cuz I won't work on it. I converted the entire Mother 2/EB section. It took me maybe 8 hours or so, but I did it. So go and frollick in the happy sunny fields of the EarthBound section. I didn't convert the EB Theories section though. The new guy can do that. I love torturing the newbies. I fixed a lot of bad stuff in the old EB section, mainly poorly written and planned-out HTML, dead links, bad formatting, etc. I checked almost every link (not e-mail links, duh) there to make sure we were up to date. I also reorganized a few sections, added a few others. Time for a Tomato Storytime! Back when we first started this site, back when it was called EarthBound.Net and when it was just me and reid running it, I updated every night. We had no update CGI, we had no staffers, it was all run by me (reid had no idea how to update stuff back then). And we had no real "fan submissions" as such. We praised the day when we got a new fanfic and if we found a new MIDI, we pratically died from excitement. Most of you probably don't remember those days, and probably don't believe the site was ever like that. Don't worry, this story is going somewhere. Anyway, I had to work hard to get an update every night. Come on, daily EarthBound content is pretty hard to find, it's a 5 year old game. But we managed. When we did find content, we would usually cut it up and only post part of it at once - we'd save the rest for days when we might not be able to find anything. Things got so bad I resorted to getting sound effects from the game and post about 5 a day when things got slow. I would usually have the files already uploaded, I would just link to the files when I felt things got so desperate we had to use them. Today when I was converting the Mother 2 section, I found a lot of sound effects that were just lying there on the server, with no links to them. How odd, I thought to myself. Then I remembered probably why they were there. It's like it was a message from me 2 years in the past to me now, telling me to update. Imagine, me telling ME to update! Anyway, since today is kind of a slow day, I did put the links up to the new sound effects. If you're crazy, you'll check out the page here. I dedicate this update to me, 2 years ago, trying to struggle to update a small but determined EB site running guy. -end Tomato Storytime- The main page of the EB section looks a little different. I'll be making similar changes to probably all sections at some point. I'm applying a new philosophy of content delivery that seems pretty promising. It's too hard to explain, but you'll start to notice differences all over, like you probably can sense already. I've gotten some good response from my Mother 3 article that I'm thinking of writing a follow-up to it. I did have some more info and ideas that I didn't put in there for briefness' sake and because I was tired when I wrote it. If I do decide to write it, expect it sometime this week, with luck. The Poems & Songs section still needs converting, as does the Funfest museum (dios or somebody, PLEASE do that, I'll be super grateful), and a few other small pages here and there. I have soooo many ideas for new stuff to do here, but I'm only one person and I have very limited time, so unfortunately I can't do them all. With all this converting and trying to do the big EB Walkthrough (I might need to have somebody take over for me) and run the site and hire new staffers and all this, I can't figure out how I stay alive. Well, this is a pretty huge update, so I'll end it soon. All this week, I keep thinking to myself how surprised I am that a site about a not-that-popular game can stay alive and continue to grow even 2 years after its inception. And with multiple updates daily. Sites as devoted to their games as we are to EB are extremely rare. Anyway, I should just say thanks to all you visitors out there who have helped us out with fan submissions, suggestions, comments, and all your support. Without you guys, it'd just be me and reid fighting each other about whether or not we should have a new design every other month. THE END. ZZzzzzzzzzz |

That's right, this is an update where it doesn't matter if you're tone-deaf or not. Although colorblindness might be an issue... Anyway, I added some new screenshots in the EB0 section for the people who haven't seen it. Go check 'em out. They're "nifty". Also, there was a music module submitted to SM.net by Ness0973. Of course, being the music guy I am, I opened it up & dissected it, and I was shocked at the findings. It turns out the SOB ripped off stuff that I had made! I'm not talking 3 or 4 notes, I'm talking a whole frickin' pattern! He copied & pasted two 64-row columns of data from one of my mods into his little doo-dad. What's worse, he didn't even thank me for it! Also, he had done this many times before, so now I find him untrustworthy and will not even consider listening to anything else he sends in (and I advise the new Mother 2 guy to do the same, since Ness0973 probably will rip off more stuff). In case you haven't guessed/noticed/etc., I'm really PO'ed that people actually think they can get away with stuff like this. If anyone else tries this, they'll have to answer to me & my singing gerbil.  |

| Well, reid and I had chosen a new Mother 2 section maintainer, but since he hasn't e-mailed us back in the last few days, we have no choice but to keep looking. So if you're interested but haven't applied yet, go ahead. Read my previous post about requirements, etc. before applying! I prefer long e-mails explaining your skills and what plans you have for the Mother 2 section, how you will get/find/add content, etc. All e-mails just saying, "Can I have the job, I like EB!" just get deleted and usually if in the future you apply for a job and I remember that you had sent stupid stuff earlier, most likely your e-mail won't even be read. So keep it serious. | ||||||

Alright, NP Siege: II is finally over with a grand total of 75 entries! I won't miss the tedious work of scanning and updating with new entires, although I will be sad that I won't open the Starmen.Net P.O. Box to find it packed full of letters anymore :( Anyways, I can't possibly post all 24 (yeah, twenty four as opposed to the 22 I thought I had done yesterday) of the newest entries on the main page because it would probably double the load time. However, you can check all the latest letters out on the Latest Entries Page. Here are all of the entrants: I will hopefully take care of the judging tomorrow night. I'd like to thank diospadre for updating for me in a pinch and Tomato for helping me out all the times when I was low on sleep and had a bunch of entries to post.
