Introduction Read an introduction by Starmen.Net's newsletter maintainer, Carpainter! // 2. Latest Starmen.Net News Lots has gone on with Starmen.Net in the past few weeks, and this is the best place to read it all! // 3. Weekly Interview (Part One) Every week, Carpainter will interview someone interesting from the EB Community. This week, we feature by far the most popular woman in the entire community. I shouldn't say the name, but I bet even the n00biest n00b has heard of Luna. // 4. Weekly Interview (Part Two) Since there has been such a gap between the two newsletters, I added two more interviews. One of someone you all should know, and another you won't. First of all: Jonk ... // 5. Weekly Interview (Part Three) And second of all, Tim L.! // 6. Word Search The Bulletin Board and Forum Links have been deactivated due to circumstances beyond my control. (Animal Crackers) // 7. Carpainter's Rant It's been a month, and here is why ... ==============o:::::::::::::::::o================= --------------: 1. Introduction :----------------- ==============o:::::::::::::::::o================= Wow. It's been a long month. Well, this edition of the newsletter doesn't have a lot of meat, but a lot of interesting stuff nevertheless. Instead of one interview, I decided to do ... three. All three interviews are from interesting people, and I think you'll enjoy. I also threw in a word search for fun, and a rant to explain why I've been gone so long. reid has been so busy lately (I hate using his name to start a sentence due to the fact that it doesn't have a capital ...) so I haven't been able to drag much out of him. Regardless, I have gotten everything I could, and threw it into the news. I hope you enjoy this! -Carpainter ==========o:::::::::::::::::::::::::o============= ----------: Latest Starmen.Net News :------------- ==========o:::::::::::::::::::::::::o============= Hallowe'en Funfest 2003 - It almost seemed as if there would be no Hallowe'en Funfest, or as if everyone had simply forgotten. After some backstage planning, it has been announced that Skulryk and Luna. For more details, check out: http://starmen.net/ff *Note: This has been announced on the main page, and the newsletter apologizes for this. Miyamoto Rocks off reidman's Face - After the mention of Miyamoto mentioning Starmen.Net, reidman's face has exploded. Miyamoto is obviously a big name in the community, and this may have a huge effect on the possible release for a sequel. Jonk Takes Over Store - After interviewing reidman, he was quoted to say "I turned the store over to Jonk, who (obviously) did amazing things with it. It's now overflowing with the merchandise equivalents of milk and honey. Jonk is awesome ninja of the week." However, there are no shirts or boxers of milk or honey. Several threaten to sue. More as we find out more. (Obviously.) MikeTheEBGuru Receives ISP - FINALLY! MikeTheEBGuru returns full-time to the EB Community, and this cult leader couldn't be happier. ==============o::::::::::::::::::o================ --------------: Weekly Interview :---------------- ==============o::::::::::::::::::o================ PART ONE "I've reached the conclusion that all guys at sm.net sound rather the same." -Luna "sometimes I roll around my house crying aloud for the delicious sour candy goodness." -Luna Carpainter: Welcome to the second Newsletter Interview! This week, it's none other than the "Queen of Starmen.Net", Luna. last week we had Head Honcho, this week we have arguably the most popular female in Starmen.Net's history. Thank you for taking the time to sit down, and discuss boring crap that won't help you get a better job, or even make any money. Luna: gaah, queen? are you kidding? Carpainter: Not at all. Although I did put it in quotes. How many guys have NOT hit on you? Carpainter: So anyway, let's begin with the agre old question. When did you start playing EB, and when did you discover Starmen.Net? Luna: welllll Luna: let's see Carpainter: Note: This is live. Don't get tricked like reidman did. Mwahaha. Luna: I used to frequent a place called Active Worlds, where I made friends with a guy whos name I cannot remember for the life of me. rediba yoshi, possibly. anyhow, he was a big earthbound fan Luna: he used to make all these comments about stuff like 'peanut cheese bars', and 'piggy jelly', which I thought was absolutely weird. Carpainter: How long ago was this? Luna: ooh, more than 4 years... Luna: 4 years and a few months. Carpainter: So you're sort of an EB n00b. Isn't it strange how that works out. Luna: wait, there's more. Luna: he ended up sending me a rom for mother 1, and an emulator- which I mistook for being earthbound. when I asked him what system the game was on, he told me, "gameboy"- so I spent the next couple months seeking out a gameboy game called earthbound. Luna: needless to say, I did NOT find it. however, one day I walked into a games4less, and asked for earthbound on gameboy, to which the clerk responded, "errr, no... but we have it on snes..." Luna: so I ended up buying the game for $5, and the manual for $15. and thus it began. ;D Carpainter: How much longer until you discovered Starmen.Net? Luna: not more than a week later. I had gotten stuck at the Onett police, and was ranting at my friend about it. he suggested visiting a site called 'earthbound.net'. Luna: I visited it, and ended getting sucked more into fanfics than faqs... Carpainter: Which would explain the whole IF thing. Carpainter: Which if you did not know, Luna used to moderate. Carpainter: That was toward the currently nonexistant readers. Luna: haha Luna: I like writing Luna: I just don't like showing it to people. Luna: IF kinda helped me get out of that Carpainter: I've always wanted to work on an IF. Carpainter: I did once, but I was afraid of sucking. Luna: you should try now! most people on the boards are pretty friendly, and will help you along. Carpainter: Do you think there are others who fear the same way I did/do? Could that have something to do with the lack of Non-RPG IFs? Carpainter: I should. But the first story I was in involved Cyan, Anthadd, Yourself, Falcy, pollyMcentah, SimonBob et cetera .... I didn't want to suck. :-) Luna: some people fear their potential skills won't be up to snuff- but the only way to improve on that is to post. Luna: in fact, the first IF I posted on, I ended up killing... it was pretty embarressing. Luna: but hey, it happens. Carpainter: Some more than others. Carpainter: *dodges tomato* Carpainter: Now, people are going to ask ... Carpainter: And I hate to be the one to say it ... Luna: uh oh Carpainter: But what happened with Easy Trivia? Luna: ahh, I was waiting for this... Carpainter: ... I probably now only have seconds to live. Luna: DEAD. Luna: no, just kidding. Luna: I feel guilty about what happened to ET Luna: I tried to keep an update sceduale, but it started slipping, and then I'd make up excuses. looking back, there wasn't anything that kept me from updating, (except maybe the humungous piles of entries to sort through) and I realize that, even now, I could be doing a much better job Luna: I don't think anyone will ever let me live it down, tho. :D Carpainter: Fair enough. Carpainter: Did the content of the entries have anything to do with it? Luna: well, I hate to admit it, but... only about 2 out of every 100 entries made me even giggle- and I laugh pretty easily. Luna: there were some really good ones, sometimes consistantly Carpainter: (I only won once. And that was under a fake name.) Luna: but there were some REALLY bad ones, and you could see who wasn't tryign when you got around 100 answers that were the same, or, worse yet, the RIGHT answer... Carpainter: lol! Luna: for those of you who don't know, the main rule of easy trivia is to answer wrongly and humorously. :-) Carpainter: Remember when I made that fluke for Minigames, and DXTandP made one and I think SimonBob made one and we all got ET badges? Luna: yep. Carpainter: I don't. Carpainter: I never did get my badge. Carpainter: I should kill or something. Luna: not me- go tackle plo or reid. Luna: sb and dxt have THEIR badges... ;-) Carpainter: That is so very true. Carpainter: And now I have your word that I do indeed deserve one. Carpainter: Waha! Carpainter: I love impromptu interviews. Carpainter: Remember when I called you and you mocked my voice? That was awesome. Carpainter: 44 cents a minute, $30 for the call. Carpainter: Good times. Luna: I didn't mock your voice. I just said you sounded like Falcon24 and Gauntlet combined. Luna: I've reached the conclusion that all guys at sm.net sound rather the same. Carpainter: Untrue. Carpainter: Well, mostly true. Carpainter: But my voice is cooler. Carpainter: Err. Not that people hate reading about my awesome sexiness, I should continue with ... questions and such. Carpainter: Did I ever send you those Cherry things I said I would? Luna: wha? Luna: oh! sour cherry blasters... no. :-( Luna: man I havn't had one in MONTHS. Carpainter: Eeps. Luna: you don't know what torture it is. Carpainter: I'll send a box someday. Luna: sometimes I roll around my house crying aloud for the delicious sour candy goodness. Carpainter: Over the rainbow ... Carpainter: So ... ROFC? Luna: ronald of fair canada? Carpainter: Rolling on floor ... Carpainter: Never mind., Carpainter: Well, I ask you to remember ... Carpainter: Wait. Carpainter: I thank you for taking the time to talk about stuff. Carpainter: I'm so exhausted. Luna: o-k. Luna: what was I gonna remember? Carpainter: I don't know. Carpainter: I meant to say "I thank you" or something. Carpainter: It's like I drank too much kool-aid. Carpainter: Or not enough. Carpainter: Well, I'll be sure to give you a call sometime. Running up bills is awesome. Luna: right on. Carpainter: And on that note, Carpainter: Uhh. Luna: I would kill for a cherry blaster. Luna: arrgh. Carpainter: I don't blame uoi. Carpainter: you. Carpainter: It's all "uoi"'s fauily. Carpainter: Fault. Carpainter: Oh boy. Luna: jeez, why'd you have to remind me... clean for 6 months... Luna: aaghh Carpainter: I'm sorry. Carpainter: If you have Cherry Blasters you could send to Luna, e-mail me at Carpainter [at] starmen.net. I'll be sure to forward the blasters to "Queenie". Carpainter: Mind if I call you "Queenie"? Luna: yes. Luna: greatly. Carpainter: Too bad. Carpainter: On that note, Carpainter: Later Days! Luna: dude. Luna: you're so dead. Carpainter: Eeps. END INTERVIEW ==============o::::::::::::::::::o================ --------------: Weekly Interview :---------------- ==============o::::::::::::::::::o================ PART TWO "people have called me Mr. Fart before, but that is a WHOLE other story" and "Mr. Tums took care of that" -Jonk Carpainter (10:25:43 PM): We're here with an impromtu interview with MR. ART himself, Jonk! Carpainter (10:25:54 PM): Now, Jonk, I do everything improv. Just thought I'd let you know. Jonk (10:25:58 PM): WT oh hi, how are you Carpainter (10:26:03 PM): Anyway, has anyone ever called you MR. ART before? Jonk (10:26:25 PM): do because my art isn't that good Jonk (10:26:28 PM): *no Jonk (10:26:43 PM): (correct that if you can :-)) Jonk (10:27:06 PM): people have called me Mr. Fart before, but that is a WHOLE other story Jonk (10:27:20 PM): Mr. Tums took care of that Carpainter (10:27:27 PM): No corrections. Carpainter (10:27:38 PM): HAD YOU BEEN A NICE JONK, YOU'D SEE THAT I TYPOED A LOT IN THE INTERVIEW WITH REID. Carpainter (10:27:52 PM): But you can be forgiven. Carpainter (10:28:07 PM): That is, if you explain the Mr. Fart comment. Jonk (10:28:08 PM): Carrict thiz Jonk (10:28:49 PM): hmmm, we need not talk about such miniscule things Jonk (10:29:06 PM): back to the art thingadoboing Jonk (10:29:22 PM): Art is pretty much my life right now Carpainter (10:29:47 PM): Your life Jonk (10:29:50 PM): I am trying to involve it in EVERything I do, even walking and making dinner Carpainter (10:30:04 PM): Are you an official artist yet? Or is that what you are working toward? Carpainter (10:30:29 PM): {This will be in the 3rd newsletter. The edition with Luna is in the current issue which is yet to be released.} Carpainter (10:30:44 PM): And I say official, as in profession. Jonk (10:30:46 PM): No one is ever an official artist, they are always a artist in training, but enough of that philosphacles junk Jonk (10:30:55 PM): no, technically Jonk (10:31:05 PM): but I am working towards it Carpainter (10:31:47 PM): How are achieving this life-long dream? Carpainter (10:31:56 PM): Assuming it's a life-long dream, of course, Jonk (10:32:00 PM): To do art you must become it. Drawing on myself didnt work, so I gotta do it the right way Jonk (10:32:05 PM): absolutely Jonk (10:32:15 PM): Pretty much since I was 4 Jonk (10:32:20 PM): when I was able to grip pencil Carpainter (10:32:23 PM): Drawing on walls? Carpainter (10:32:25 PM): Oh wow. Carpainter (10:32:27 PM): What a start. Carpainter (10:32:30 PM): Four? Jonk (10:32:32 PM): I designed forts that I later built Carpainter (10:32:44 PM): Are you one of those kids who drew before they learned how to breathe? Jonk (10:32:46 PM): I actually drew out my plans when I built lego forts Jonk (10:32:51 PM): I was such a geek Jonk (10:33:51 PM): I really learned how to imagine and dream of endless adventures and challenges before I even could legitimatly draw Jonk (10:34:06 PM): Nintendo helped out alot on that Carpainter (10:34:35 PM): Oh wow. Carpainter (10:34:38 PM): Let me guess ... Jonk (10:34:40 PM): Ah, the good old days of plaing nintendo, and bulding forts in the woods in the off hours of gaming Carpainter (10:34:43 PM): EarthBound helped a lot. Jonk (10:34:48 PM): not at first Jonk (10:35:01 PM): it was metal gear, and megaman, mario, metroid Jonk (10:35:08 PM): Earthbound came late for me Jonk (10:35:20 PM): but EB grasped the adventure I was wanting to live Jonk (10:35:26 PM): because of the modern place setting Jonk (10:35:38 PM): It kinda fit a little bit into my own past Jonk (10:36:01 PM): and I always pretending and dreamed of adventures when I was a kid that EB had in it Carpainter (10:36:08 PM): Wow. Carpainter (10:36:12 PM): I was the same way. Carpainter (10:36:15 PM): Except without talent. Carpainter (10:36:17 PM): Heh. Jonk (10:36:24 PM): Talent comes with interest Jonk (10:36:40 PM): and not caring about what others think initially Carpainter (10:37:28 PM): Almost like life. Carpainter (10:37:32 PM): Then again, art IS yours. Jonk (10:37:35 PM): Gotta be headstrong Carpainter (10:37:38 PM): And that's awesome that you found that. Carpainter (10:37:49 PM): That owned that sentence. Oh yeah. Jonk (10:37:51 PM): Well, I am finding it Carpainter (10:37:54 PM): Which artists influenced you? Jonk (10:37:58 PM): I dont think I have found it yet Jonk (10:38:16 PM): I havent achieved the feeling I want Jonk (10:38:18 PM): but I am close Carpainter (10:39:47 PM): Very close? Jonk (10:40:37 PM): by incorperating art into almost every ascpect into my life, as an artist, you will be able to live your imagination Carpainter (10:40:45 PM): Like Willy Wonka. Jonk (10:40:46 PM): and it will flow out of you Jonk (10:40:47 PM): easily Jonk (10:40:53 PM): onto a medium Jonk (10:41:33 PM): One thing with art is, there are no prisoners except if you jail yourself Jonk (10:41:45 PM): you have to be free with any, and i mean ANY idea Jonk (10:41:49 PM): and get it out Jonk (10:41:51 PM): on paper Jonk (10:41:52 PM): something Carpainter (10:42:31 PM): Sounds complicated. Jonk (10:42:44 PM): bascially Jonk (10:42:47 PM): when you have an idea Jonk (10:42:50 PM): draw it out Jonk (10:42:53 PM): write it down Jonk (10:42:56 PM): dont contain it Carpainter (10:44:11 PM): Ahhh. Carpainter (10:44:15 PM): Any sort of idea? Jonk (10:44:31 PM): any aesthetic idea Carpainter (10:44:54 PM): I heard that word today in English. Carpainter (10:44:55 PM): For writing. Carpainter (10:45:01 PM): I guess that doesn't just work for Art. Carpainter (10:45:05 PM): But for any hobby. Carpainter (10:45:40 PM): So ... Carpainter (10:45:42 PM): Other than Art, Carpainter (10:45:48 PM): What do you do that's unique? Jonk (10:48:12 PM): I just recently became part of my University's Graphic's Club and I am part of the Fund-raising committee Jonk (10:48:29 PM): I like to cook Carpainter (10:48:39 PM): Cook? Carpainter (10:48:41 PM): Wow. Carpainter (10:48:48 PM): I can't make sandwiches. :D Jonk (10:50:29 PM): I like to cook, I feel that I have to satisfy my belly as well as my mind. :-) Carpainter (10:50:53 PM): Make us something. Carpainter (10:51:19 PM): Well, as much as I'd like to cry and moan about how much more talented you are, I must go on to the darkside. Dance Dance Revolution. Carpainter (10:52:23 PM): Save me? Jonk (10:52:48 PM): Dont get me started Jonk (10:52:59 PM): I tried to do a little DDR at Plo's once Carpainter (10:53:24 PM): Cyan brought it over. I suck as well. I used the keyboard. Jonk (10:53:26 PM): We had to do a chaul bosy outline after the game for me Jonk (10:53:35 PM): chalk that is Carpainter (10:53:37 PM): Well, I use the keyboard. Carpainter (10:53:40 PM): I suck on foot. Jonk (10:53:40 PM): chaulk body Carpainter (10:53:44 PM): ... Heh. I suck on foot. Carpainter (10:53:47 PM): What a great quote. Jonk (10:54:03 PM): Plo is pretty good Jonk (10:54:12 PM): mad reflexes that boy has Carpainter (10:54:33 PM): Yeah? Carpainter (10:54:39 PM): That'd be interesting. Carpainter (10:56:52 PM): Well, I must end the interview. Carpainter (10:57:04 PM): You'll get the bill in the mail. Jonk (10:57:11 PM): Im not much into DDR because I just havent gotten into that genre yet. Me stinking at it isnt helping me appeal to it more, but i am trying to give it a chance. :-) Carpainter (10:57:19 PM): Me too. ;-) Jonk (10:57:31 PM): I'll mail you a punch in the mail if you mail me a bill in the mail Carpainter (10:57:39 PM): Mail owned that sentence. Carpainter (10:57:50 PM): Well, while I still have my life and/or sanity, I must depart! Carpainter (10:57:57 PM): I thank Mr. Fart for his time this week. I can only imagine how sad my avid newsletter fans must be after such a long absence. Well, I know this isn't EarthBoundy, but it has to be said. I suck. Seriously though, A lot of things happened this month that I never thought would happen. I got a girl, I started playing Volleyball, I started doing homework (seriously) and I opened my own business. I type up homework for people at a cost of one penny per word. It's fun stuff. However, I have tried to put EVERYTHING I could into each newsletter, and this may be taking a bit too long for my liking, and probably reido's liking. The kind soul has yet to say anything to me, and I'm glad. I just want this to rock. And it will. From now on, the newsletter will be bi-weekly so I have information I can use. How does that sound? If you think it sucks, let me know at carpainter[at]starmen.net. I don't get enough e-mail. Thank you dudes and dudettes for not yelling at me to update. You truly are ... something. I'll decide later. :)
