To Whom It May Concern;
My name is Reid Young, and I am the webmaster of Starmen.Net, a website dedicated entirely to the Mother/EarthBound series of RPGs. When it came to America in 1995, EarthBound captured the hearts of thousands, but was never recognized for the truly excellent and enjoyable game that it is. Starmen.Net (formerly known as EarthBound.Net) started up in early 1999, and since has been bringing together thousands and thousands of EarthBound fans across the globe.
The recent cancellation of the third game in the series, Mother 3 (which was to be known as EarthBound 64 in the states), was not a surprise, but was still extremely disappointing. In response to this, we began gathering support for the EarthBound 64 / Mother 3 petition. In the end, we gathered and sorted through a total of 10,013 signatures, totaling 700 pages worth of fan signatures. A copy was sent to Nintendo of America, and two to Nintendo of Japan, in hopes that the voice of the fans would be heard. We never got a response, and hope perhaps we can still get one, if our petition has not been ignored.
This brings me to the present. There has been speculation of a possible Gamecube or Game Boy Advance version of Mother 3, or even a GBA version of Mother 2/EarthBound. As fans, we’re quite excited at this possibility, and decided a letter-writing campaign would be a good way to let the guys over at Nintendo know that we’re still here and still hoping. A total of 75 letters were submitted to the “Nintendo Power Siege” letter contest that we held on our website. You will find that lots of effort was put into these letters and envelope art. However, the objective of this contest was not to gain recognition for Starmen.Net, but to gain recognition for the EarthBound series and to let people know that there is still demand for the games! We are all avid fans and would love nothing more than to see the Mother series continued on the next generation of Nintendo consoles.
Thank you for your time, and we sincerely hope you will consider publishing some of these great envelopes or letters!
Best wishes,
Reid Young
